How do the FI and HR modules work together?

Being at the core of ERP, the financial accounting module integrates with human capital management module (HCM).  Payroll and travel management submodules are the main areas in which HCM integrates with SAP FI. Wage types which are essential HR components are assigned to symbolic accounts which define the specific GL accounts for payroll transactions.
