What is the financial management area in SAP?

Companies interested in managing their finances from a viewpoint of funds management and cash budget management require the configuration of financial management. It is an organizational unit with SAP FI that helps facilitate the consumption of funds on an operational basis. A financial management area can be assigned to one or more company codes.
